How to Fail on the Internet - Information Overload

This is probably the most important element in failing to succeed with internet marketing.
We are all told that people are searching the internet for information. True. Unfortunately, everyone also thinks you want every little thing they are giving away (a lot of it junk) or trying to sell to you (a lot of it irrelevant). Your e-mail in box will be full of offers and links to this “Priceless Information” or that “Offer too good to miss” – or “Did you miss this one – Liz?” or that awful word – “Awesome”!
So you delete them as fast as possible – they might contain worms or viruses or some other form of stealthy mischief. If you find the odd hour or two you can click the link to tell them not to send anymore – but we are even warned that this itself might lead to unwanted visitors to our computer. And even doing this only lessens the onslaught for a day or so.
One of the difficulties with deleting most of you messages is that it is so easy to delete that really important email you have been waiting for – gone like a puff of smoke, never to be seen again.
So, you open a new email account – only for xyz, and before you can say “sneeze a lot” they too, are full of junk.
So, now you spend a half day trying to work out how to set your spam filters to eliminate the junk – and this is not as easy as it sounds – because –yes – there may be the true “bargain of the time” amongst all that rubbish, and you don’t want to miss it, do you? So you really need to check every item out! You will need to put a big portion of your day aside for following up emails – most of which are simply time devourers, and have no relevance for you – for now.
But, and this is a big but, they may have relevance for your later, when you have mastered the latest technique to hit your computer – so you hang onto it, file it – and very soon your files will be bursting, and you still won’t have a clue where any one particular article or piece of software is.
And remember – this isn’t all FREE, some of it you will have paid for – and getting a refund can be tricky, it can take time and persistence on your part to claim back the credit card money you have paid for something that you find out as soon as you look at it, you do not want – and don’t understand how to use anyway.
But if you don’t pay attention to this, your PayPal and bank account will soon be depleted. Worry not – your computer is filling up nicely and you may find you need to purchase extra hard drive to store all your free information and those purchases you have made. At least when you computer does give up the ghost you will still have these valueless pieces if INFORMATION on your spare hard drive, even if nothing else is saved.
So – grab as many freebies as you can, file them in date order to ensure that you cannot find any particular item and enjoy the feeling that you have missed nothing (even though it will take months to read and assimilate). Don’t you feel good, knowing that all these perfect strangers are giving away valuable information to you? Aren’t they a kind bunch of people?
