It's not bizarre if you will hear a dog owner saying that basset hound training is not always easy. With this breed known to follow their noses once they pick up an appealing odor, training them is definitely one challenging task a dog owner may experience. But every challenge is not impossible to surpass so long as you're loaded with the ideal tools to keep you going.
These tools have been proven safe and effective in helping you teach your beloved pet how to act appropriately:
Collar.
Available in different styles and colors, the collar is not just a pretty piece of accessory placed around a dog's neck. It's where dog tags, containing vital information, is attached. Besides that, it also helps in handling your dog during numerous circumstances especially during basset hound training period. It can be used to handle excessive barking, chasing cars and passersby at the same time teach him basic commands like come, sit and down. Often attached to a collar is a;
Leash.
Leash, also called lead, is available in various measures and variations. The standard leash, typically available in four to eight feet lengths, is ideal for daily use and basic obedience training. For other training, a leash that is six feet long with durable clip would be most suitable. Retractable leash on the contrary is ideal if you need to allow your pet to wander away from you but it's not great during basset hound training since you will not have much control over your pet. Furthermore, this type of leash is not recommended to dogs that are not yet trained on a regular leash nor if you can't provide supervision.
Crate.
The crate is one helpful dog training device a dog owner could possibly get. Most effective tool for housebreaking, the crate can keep both your pet and your house safe when leaving him alone at home. Chewing and other behavior issues can be addressed with the help of crate. Furthermore, if you plan to travel with your pet, whether it is by car or plane, it's always best to use crate to ensure your pet's comfort and security at the same time follow the protocols of most airline carriers regarding traveling with pets.
Reward.
Rewarding your pet for showing desirable behavior is a proven way to let him know that you are pleased with what he did. It could be anything your pet find truly rewarding; praise, chew toys, treat, raw hides and the likes. When rewarding your pet with treats, just be certain not to do so excessively to prevent him from becoming obese and treat-dependent.
