Old Marketing Efforts That Still Work Today

There's little doubt that the rise of the Internet has made massive changes to the way businesses are being run and marketed today. Entrepreneurs and marketers of today now frequently throw around terms such as "social media," "search engine optimization," and "email marketing" which sound downright baffling to those unaware of them. The conveniences offered by the web, such as being able to sell products and services to a global audience and receive payments with just a few clicks of the mouse, has also started a steady shift from offline, to online.
This trend has given birth to a new breed of Internet marketers who now work from their homes and make enough money to support their families, again, right in front of their computer screens.
With that said, are the marketing methods of old now obsolete? Should you really bade farewell to them and start doing your homework on new methods?
Yes and No
The answer to the first question? Not all. Despite the incredible speed of Internet marketing and the potential of entrepreneurship on the Web, the same old marketing methods that have worked well in the past are still just as effective today.
As for the second question, it all depends on you really. There's little to lose and much to be gained by taking advantage of the reach and influence of the Internet. After all, it's definitely here to stay, so you may as well explore your options.
Here are just some of the many "old" marketing techniques that you shouldn't forget about.
Sales
Running a sale on your products and services is one of the oldest and most effective tricks in the marketing book. When it comes right down to it, it's hard to resist the opportunity of buying a product with a price that's lower than what your competitors offer. Bargains are what people look for at the end of the day.
You shouldn't stop at just offering a sale either. You can add a limited time offer so that consumers will be pressured to buy now.
Exclusive Circles
People love being a part of an exclusive community, which is why mailing lists, when done right, can be a very effective marketing tool. Offering exclusive discounts to this group of customers will foster brand loyalty and pay off in the long run.
Freebies
Again, you're playing to the desires of people here. If people can't resist a bargain, you could only imagine how they would feel over receiving something that's free.
Offering some of your products and services for free is a smart way to kick off a marketing campaign and generate interest amongst your target market. The goal here is to convince people to try out your product or service since they have nothing to lose. If they like it, then you could bet they'll come back and spread the word around.
Word of Mouth
By far the most effective method of marketing, word of mouth looks easier said than done. There's no definitive guide to word-of-mouth advertising, save that it takes a good product and luck for it to happen. You could also start by creating "buzz" for your product and service, and see if the word gets around.
