What Does Your Customer Value?

Contrary to popular belief, the secret to small business success may not be intimately linked to selling your proverbial soul in order to maximize profit margins and promote your existence to the world with dozens of obligatory keywords and tags. In an economy that has been saturated with homogeneous business structures and plans, a truly successful business is one that promotes the well being of not only the business entity, but the customers which it serves.

More accurately, the customer is the reason why any particular business exists. Without the financial and personal support of individuals that partake in the comings and goings of any given business, it would cease to function. Customers don't necessarily just want to feel "right", that's not going far enough. Customers want to feel that their contribution to a particular business is important. Considering the situation from a consumer point of view, the business that is most likely to get the best returns is the business that takes the time to foster meaningful relationships with the people willing to spend hard earned dollars for their sake. In other words, money transaction is the last and least important fundamental aspect of running a small business. Providing a healthy, holistic, and satisfying service is what will keep the metaphorical 'boat afloat'.

Consumers are advertised at from the moment they awaken until the moment they close their eyes to sleep. Thousands upon thousands of advertisement messages for various companies, business, and causes bombard your customer every single day. Consumers realize that most advertisements are there to get them to feel a certain way; a form of mental control or trickery. Customers do not want to be controlled in that way. Sure, overbearing advertising might earn a few sales, but in the long run sacrificing business quality for quick dollars will never work out in the favor of a business. Instead, why not let a business speak for itself? If the service rendered is so far beyond the expectations of the customer, it becomes an extraordinary experience. That extraordinary experience will live far longer in a customer's mind (and more pleasantly so) than a flashing Internet banner or billboard advertisement.

Just as a parent regards a child, good intentions fostered by love is what leads to the growth of a healthy individual. In terms of business, good and ethical intentions by business profiteers fostered by a love of the service they are providing is what leads to the growth and prosperity of a company or business. If a business intends to extort or misuse a customer's trust, then the business can expect to stagnate and become unprofitable. If a business intends to make the customer's experience with them fulfilling and rewarding, no matter the immediate cost to the business, then the business has no choice but to flourish. Customers value caring, educational businesses that provide exceptional service; they value honesty, and enjoy feeling like the service rendered was tailor-fit to their needs. Care about customer values, and they'll care about your business.
