Tips for ISO Certification

I'll tell you this now: if anyone says going for an ISO 9000 certification is really necessary, he, or she, is lying. The truth is that your business doesn't have to be ISO 9000 certified. But that however, doesn't mean that your business won't benefit from the status of being ISO certified. Any business, regardless of size and the industry it is, definitely has a higher chance of being successful with certification. In today's globally competitive world, every edge counts, and when it comes right down to it, both customers and business partners are more likely to make transactions and or work together with a company that places emphasis on quality management. Think of this as just food for thought that you may want to mull over. So how about it? Think you're ready for your business to be ISO 9000 certified and get its stamp of approval? Here are some tips for you to get started.
Objectives, Objectives and More Objectives
Don't get me wrong, going overboard with your quality objectives is never a good idea. It's always quality over quantity when it comes to your quality management objectives. That said, you need to make sure that your objectives aren't too general. Every business is of course unique, so why shouldn't your objectives be the same? Be as specific as you can-simply saying that your objective is to achieve high quality standards will not suffice, and you're only setting yourself up to fail. Indicate your targets clearly. For example, if your goal is to reduce your overhead, indicate by what percentage you would want to do so.
Highlight your Weaknesses
Being ISO 9000 certified means baring your weaknesses, but don't be discouraged. This is simply to facilitate your continuous development and improvement. This facet of a quality management system shows in the standard for possible problematic scenarios and responses, as well as preventative measures. Being ISO certified means that you and your employees are in a constant state of self-improvement.
Be Honest
The process of being ISO certified can often mean that you have to put your best foot forward. There's nothing writhing with this, but I find that doing this in the long run can be damaging. Make it a point to maintain a sense of honesty in the company, even after an audit for ISO 9000 certification. Answer any questions truthfully, state all facts as they are and don't twist them to make your company look good to the auditor.
