Being Authentic in Business

Being authentic in business is what separates the leaders from the herd. All businesses want to be seen as authentic, this is what gives them a competitive edge and drives customers to them. When a business is true to its market then the market will listen to them, and they can even dictate changes in the market itself. This is why being authentic makes a difference. But being authentic and seeming authentic are very different things.
An authentic business has two main principles that are at the core of how it conducts business. It cares about how it influences its industry and it cares about how consumers are effected by the products that they buy. These are principles that they hold above everything else in the way they conduct business. This is what makes them authentic in business.
A truly authentic business has several things going for it. One thing they almost always have is experience in their industry. They are a creator and innovator, they actually make the products that keep the industry alive. They also will usually have been in the industry long enough to have made changes that had real world effects. Another thing that makes a business authentic is they have been a part of the economic growth of the industry as a whole. They may have been active in the legislation of safety laws within their business arena. Additionally they have probably been a positive influence on other businesses that are in the industry as well. Authentic businesses are not afraid of changes, they welcome them and are actively a part of all aspects that make their industry great.
There are many businesses that wish to seem authentic, but they are essentially different in their business strategy. Their goal is to drive business to them by following what seems to be an authentic business strategy, yet there is a key difference. They only worry about their influence on the industry or how consumers are effected by their products when their sales are dropping. They will generally do nothing about their part in the climate of their industry until there is a problem. They are not authentic in business, they are simply following the trends. Almost anyone can conduct business in this way, they can just pick up a newspaper and act on the daily news as a guide. Unfortunately this is a way that many businesses appear to be authentic, but are not.
The truly authentic business will always end up on top. This is because they are actually part of the trends that are happening in their business climate, they are not playing catch up. Everyone that does business with you will see the evidence of this and it will have effects that ripple throughout the people that you deal with everyday. The industry knows this and their customers will be aware of it. This is what makes the difference between a great business and the average competitor. If you want to be a great business, then you must separate yourself and be a leader in your industry. This is done by being authentic in business and that is the only way to be a leader.
