Leave Them in Good Shape

When battling it out for positions in the marketplace with competition, it is better to leave them in good shape and not disable them as a company. Many companies feel that if they are in competition with another business, then it is their obligation to destroy them or disable them in the market. This is not the optimal tactic and it is not better for the business market as a whole. Elimination of the competition can have negative effects for businesses in a specific industry and it also causes ramifications for the economy as well. Destroying the competition sounds fun in theory, but leaving them in tact is better for business.

By eliminating competition within any business industry, there are some serious consequences that are caused. The new talent that works for your competition will suddenly find itself out of work, but more important is that they may leave the industry altogether. Another factor is that your best competition is now gone, so whatever progress they were bringing into the industry has gone with them. We must not forget that the business world needs competition to thrive and expand itself, but when only monopolies exist there is little room for change within the market as it remains.

By leaving competition in good shape there are some clearly beneficial results. The biggest benefit is that the talented people working for the competition are not forced to leave the industry due to the economic climate, so the progress and innovations of these people will continue to help the industry flourish. Any company that is trying hard to compete will do its best to be inventive, this is usually when the best ideas come from their efforts for the industry as a whole. Additionally, if they are still in good shape and know that your company chose not to disable them, they maybe open to sharing of ideas with those companies that they have such trust with. This is an invaluable understanding to have with each other as companies.

Leaving them in good shape also allows for the best possible option, the two competitive companies can form an alliance. Alliances are formidable and are the highest evolution of business growth in any industry. If your company can build alliances out of its primary competition, soon the market landscape will change faster than ever. There is another very important advantage to making alliances with your competition. If one day your company should be on the other side and find that they are the business that has lost the edge in the marketplace, the competition may remember your consideration and leave you in good shape to stay alive. That is a very great benefit to be had should it be needed from your competitor, but it will not be an option from those you have treated unkindly in the past. Trust that those that were your enemies, will remember it when your day of reckoning comes.

So when doing battle in the business market, consider these ideas before drawing swords with your enemies. The enemy that you make your friend, maybe the friend that you have for a longtime in business. Leave them in good shape to allow their business to become an alliance, but may build a business relationship and possibly a beneficial friendship.
