American Economy, Industry, & Business Bottom Lines
by
Peyton Stallings
Day after day I see politicians, pundits, and so-called "experts" detail what they say is wrong with the American Economy, and how it should be fixed. One thing in particular that I view repeatedly is the fact that most of these experts have nothing personally vested in the situation, no horse in the race. As an Atlanta asphalt contractor and Atlanta concrete contractor, I do; and, I have something to say.
With respect to the American Economy, forget political parties and politics. The best thing that can be done to spur the economy is to allow small business owners and contractors like myself to go about our business unhindered, with as little government interference as possible.
As independent contractors, we know our businesses, products, services, and industries better than most "educated people" that write about them, so just let us do our jobs. If we grow, the economy grows. If we make money our bottom lines expand; we spend money and invest money in industry. Get it?
This is not rocket science; it is basic economics and common sense. All contractors, especially pavement contractors, want to grow. Again, the more work we do, the more money we can make. To do more work we will hire extra workers when the demand for them is warranted. We want to! Uncle Sam, let us help the American Economy grow.
"The powers that be" can help small businesses (and larger ones for that matter) and independent contractors to grow in the American Economy by simply not taxing the middle and upper classes to death, and by easing-up on capital gains taxes, and far too strict regulations. The formula is simple. Politicians, for their own personal interests and job security, try to complicate things.
Just as I earlier somewhat criticized writers and pundits for writing about businesses that they have no interests in, maybe I am no writer. Maybe you readily agree with that statement; but I know exactly what I am talking about, even if it is not the prettiest prose around. Read me, or hear me out, please.
Whether politicians or even everyday Americans know it or not, business owners understand the economy as much or better than the folks in Washington, DC and most state capital domes. Please listen to our hopes and concerns. We are not greedy carpetbaggers looking to capitalize off of the misfortune or labor of fellow human beings without giving back. Almost every small or medium sized business in the American Economy understands that all of us are interconnected, and we are also directly connected to the people.
Thank you for your time and attentiveness in reading this article. It comes from a small Atlanta asphalt and concrete contractor that lives and labors in the real world, not in a university classroom in California... Thanks again.
