5 Common Roadblocks For Business

Managing business is not an easy job and encountering obstacles is inevitable. The path towards business is not always smooth-sailing and changes must be taken to overcome the obstacles. Below are the 5 common roadblocks when doing business.

Business Roadblock #1

Believing that being a good craftsman is all that's needed to run a successful business

Many people erroneously believe that being an exceptional craftsman makes them qualified to operate a business in that work. They spend most of the time performing tasks that they are specialized in without planning the business system/marketing of their company.

Most of us know people like these: they must be at work every day in order to conduct their business. They believe that no one can do a better job than them since they are an expert in that field. Doing all the things including, checking emails, pack boxes, write invoices, and make sales call.

They are not willing to outsource the tasks to other people because many entrepreneurs think that they already know what they need to know and they don't want to know what they don't know! By having that mindset, the business will most certainly fail.

After not getting any results, they try to face it alone and get frustrated and tired. They feel overwhelmed and worry that they can't do it all. They worry that others won't do as well as them. They know that they should let go but they simply can't. They fail to fix serious flaws and they ignore their customers.

They feel like they need to get away to relieve their stress and when they return, the work has piled up and they have lost money, customers and opportunities.

Business Roadblock #2

Lack of Clearly Articulated Goals

Writing down the short and long term goals increases your chances of getting more results. By having a specific goal, you will need to know what you are supposed to do and hence, taking more action towards it.

A lot of people don't write down as they think that they already know what they want to do. I would always write down the task that I aimed to do for the week/day and will only change to another task after completing my previous task.

There will be some times that we tend to do other things as well but it is perfectly alright as long as we have a plan in mind.

Business Roadblock #3

Lack of Focus, Distraction and over commitment

By not having a business plan, people tend to wander aimlessly from one thing to another and tend to juggle multiple projects at a time. They get distracted easily and constantly changing methods.

By constantly changing methods, you will definitely get bored, exhausted. Confused and frustrated. Thus their priorities have messed up and they do not know what to do.

Sooner or later, they start to procrastinate, a common human nature which everyone tend to do. They start to take shortcuts for task completion and not giving their best shot.

By not removing the roots of procrastination, it is impossible to have a profitable online business.

 Business Roadblock #4

Conflicting Intentions

Conflicting intentions are equal-opportunity blockers and they come in every imaginable form. Our goals are basically opposing one another and we are not willing to do the things that we don't like.

For example:

"I want to be rich but rich people are selfish and arrogant"

"I am trying to increase my business but I'm afraid that I am not able to handle it."

"I want to be successful but I am afraid of failing"

These are some of the common thoughts and they feel trapped and confused.

By doing so, you are actually taking action towards your goal. Every action makes it closer to your success.

Business Roadblock #5

No Systematized Processes

One of the biggest mistakes entrepreneurs commit is failing to document, systematize, and communicate key processes, instructions and information. They keep information in their head without writing down, thinking that they can remember it.

The system of any business task is dependent upon three things:

  1. System. The overall structure, plan, and organization of tasks.
  2. Processes. Detailed action items associated with accomplishing objectives, including the specific tasks, timeline and person responsible for completing them.
  3. People. Those who are accountable for completing the work.
When one, or more, of these pieces are overlooked, a business becomes vulnerable and people start to waste time and get confused. Solving problems is a nightmare and training people to do anything can be difficult and time-consuming.
