Refuse Collection In Business - A Greener Outlook
by
Jeffery Nevil
There are many things to consider when choosing the right form of business refuse collection. It's a significant aspect of any commercial venture, and a business owner should carefully consider the options when it comes to disposing of their refuse. It's all about what image you want your business to have. Increasingly, there is an emphasis on green policies and eco innovations. As a result businesses are choosing to dispose of their waste in as environmentally friendly a way as possible, partially because of the public image they wish to project but also because of the concerns for the environment.
There are a large amount of waste management services around the market, many of which offer a commercial service for industrial and retail applications. There may be varieties of service, but the best companies will be able to offer a service that is both comprehensive but also environmentally friendly in every way. There are a number of things to look out for.
As I said, the best companies are eco-friendly but still comprehensive. There is no point in choosing an environmentally friendly service that requires you to deliver the refuse to their site yourself. It's unproductive for a business, as your attention will be drawn away from the business itself. It's also a waste of time. Look for a comprehensive service offering full collection or delivery capabilities.
There is another point to be made here. An environmentally friendly approach to waste management almost universally requires sorting of waste. Different types of materials are separated into recyclable and non-recyclable and then taken to their various plants in order to process them. It's usually metals that are separated first, and then things like soil, bricks and hardcore. From there, plastics may be separated and pre-processed before being disposed of in an efficient way. However, the refuse collection company should not require you, the business, to do that. The best companies offer single bin solutions whereby refuse is collected, sorted and recycled or disposed of in a waste efficient manner. Keep an eye out for that because it is an indicator of a quality company, and it saves time and hassle.
It's worth looking into the practices of the company too. The most energy and eco efficient companies will have a complete process that utilises all recyclable materials. Look for companies that maximise recycling and minimise landfill. Some companies of particular note will burn only a small amount of unusable material. In addition, they may have a plant that is capable of generating electricity during the burning process. Pressurised steam can be heated with the flames of an incinerator and used to drive turbines to generate electricity. Additionally, exhaust can be treated through a cooling and filtration process to maintain incredibly low emissions.
It's an increasingly big deal to dispose of waste, particularly commercial waste, in this kind of way. A company with any sense of ethics will endeavour to do so. Businesses should look around and try to find the system that is the best for them, their business and the environment.
