Most people, when purchasing an older home, feel a great sense of pride and will attempt to renovate the house to add some conveniences to areas such as the kitchen, but also to keep the house as close to the original as possible. You may want to rethink that process as you plan your kitchen or bathroom renovation.
When you begin to plan for the renovation of your older home purchase,or even if you are not considering renovation, consider calling in an expert plumber to review the areas of the home where any kind of water piping is present to determine the need for plumbing renovations.
It's a sad fact that we often neglect those invisible areas, but they are one of the first we should be reviewing. In previous decades, home builders sometimes used items that were essentially harmful to our health. Many of those items were not known to be harmful, but today have proven to cause disease processes that range from cancer to kidney damage. Some may, unknown to you, still be present in your home. Even if your home does not require visible renovation, plumbing renovations may be necessary.
Older homes are particularly guilty of this, with homes which are more than 30 years old being prone to having items in them that may be causative agents for a wide array of different health issues.
Many older homes have lead paint, may contain asbestos, and some will have residual lead piping remaining in them. In addition, homes which are prone to having and keeping moisture in them may also be prone to mold, the causative agent in many different kinds of health risks.
When you consider renovating your home, one of the most important things that you can do for the health of your family is to take a look at the most important aspects of the house. Particularly in older homes, some plumbing renovation may be needful. Old home renovations should always include piping in the kitchen and bathroom, as well as reviewing moisture prone areas.
As you begin the planning stages of your home renovation project, plumber renovations should be part of the process. With the kitchen renovation project, have an expert look at your piping. Plumbing renovation is quite frequently necessary due to the presence of some residual lead piping. In many cases, home owners have replaced lead piping that was present when it took damage, but unless it had done so, it was not removed and replaced.
It is estimated that more than 38 million homes still have lead piping in them. This estimate is down about half, but the problem has still not been completely removed. Lead piping is a problem that is present world-wide, and is prevalent in homes which were built prior to 1986.
If your home was built prior to 1986, even if you do not need home renovations, consider calling in an expert for review of your pipes and fixtures for possible plumber renovation. Lead is one of the most common hazards in the home. Ensuring that your home does not contain any lead piping or paint is an important part of keeping your family safe and healthy.
